Editorial Report
Include the following: -Title of the Article, Author, Webpage and Date of article. Make sure your article is an Editorial/Opinion article and NOT a news article. Each #1 through 4 should be a full paragraph. So 4 complete, separate paragraphs. Please number the paragraphs. 1) a. What is the author’s opinion? Be very clear what the author’s opinion is and explain it with details in multiple sentences. b. How well does the author back up their argument with facts? Give examples. c. How biased are they? Explain what words, phrases or sentences demonstrate to you their bias. d. How can this be connected to economics and economic effects (local or global)? 2) a. What is the opposing opinion that would disagree with the author's opinion? Explain what this other side believes and why. Who believes in this opposing opinion? (You may need to look this up online if the other side is not mentioned much by the author). b. How does the author present the other side? How biased are they in presenting the other side? Explain in detail. c. How much does the author bring up the other opinion? Does the author offer counterarguments to the other opinion? Describe. d. What is a possible third opinion that is not mentioned? Explain. 3) What information is being left out that would help you better form an opinion? Think of questions that you would want answered. You may need to research some online for ideas about the issue. Also, use your imagination/critical thinking to think of what info is being left out. What else would help you make a more informed opinion? Data, facts, statistics, beliefs of different individuals, historical events related to the topic? 4) What is your opinion on the issue and why? Fully explain your reasoning for your opinion. (You can't just say "I'm not sure" or "I am neutral." You have to take some stance or at least lean on one side or another, or have some type of opinion on the topic. If you don't feel too sure of your opinion, include questions you would want to be answered before taking a stronger stance on the issue.) Use the below links to find an editorial article. |
